Mauritius is a beautiful tropical Indian Ocean island off the coast of Africa. Formed by a series of undersea volcanic eruptions, Mauritius is famed for its stunning scenery, beaches, eco tourism and flora and fauna. Although strict eco tourism laws are in place to help keep tourism growth under control and protect the fragile environment there are still a number of luxury resorts to choose from, which you will usually find near or on a stunning Mauritius beach.
Located on the north east shore of the island, Grand Baie is a pretty stretch of sand backed by tall trees which provided welcomed shade. With warm turquoise waters and beautiful views, Grand Baie is a great beach for topping up your tan. Swimming can be quite difficult sometimes as fishing boats are scattered across the bay. However the boats are enjoyable to watch as you relax on the sand or enjoy a cool drink at a beachside café. The fishing boats and tree lined shore make for some excellent tropical beach photographs that will make your friends at home green with envy.
Just a few minutes drive from Grand Baie is the popular beach of Pereybere, which is a better place for swimming due to the lack of fishing boats and deeper waters than most lagoons around the island. This beach is a favourite among the young locals and there are plenty of activities to keep people entertained. It is also very family friendly with good snorkelling, calm surf and many facilities close by.
Just off the east coast of the main island is Ile Aux Cerfs. This beautiful island has some of the world’s best beaches and is very easily accessible by boat. There are many facilities, so you are not left to scour the jungle for food and water, and a variety of water sports to keep you entertained. Ile Aux Cerfs beach is a perfect place for snorkeling with beautiful tropical fish and coral near the shore. It is also a very relaxing environment to sit back and enjoy doing nothing as the warm, calm seas gently lap the white sandy shores.
These three beaches are just the tip of the iceberg for holidays to Mauritius with many miles of sandy shores surrounding this jewel of the Indian Ocean. Depending on where you stay you many also get your own private beach to while away the sunny days and relieve the stresses and strains of working life.
